Report forecasts growth for plastics in health care packaging

According to a new technical market research report, "Plastics For Healthcare Packaging" from BCC Research, the global plastic healthcare packaging market was estimated in terms of volume at nearly 9.6 billion pounds in 2012 and is expected to surpass 10 billion pounds in 2013. The market is expected to reach more than 13 billion pounds in terms of volume by 2018, and register a compound annual growth rate of 5.6 percent.

In that study from Motorola Solutions, 48 percent say they plan on increasing their use of so-called "task interleaving" in their DC operations over the next few years. Excess, nonmoving inventory is a common business problem that, fortunately, contains its own solution. By donating that new, idle merchandise to charity, a business can earn a federal income tax deduction under Section 170(e)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. The IRS Code says that regular C corporations may deduct the cost of the inventory donated, plus half the difference between cost and fair market value. Deductions may be up to twice-cost.
