    Material Handling & Logistics

Its latest national market research data show 14 consecutive quarters of declining vacancies in the warehouse sector, highlighting the U.S. industrial real-estate market's momentum through the third quarter of 2013.

Conquer the dock's top 3 hazards
    Material Handling & Logistics
Looking at safety statistics, it's easy to conclude that the loading dock is one of the most hazardous areas of your operations. A quarter of all accidents occur there. The majority of these accidents result in the dreaded back injury that, according to OHSA, ultimately ends up costing U.S. companies upwards of $80 billion annually.

Cliff Holste: A detailed plan is key to having a successful project
    Supply Chain Digest
When considering any project it is always a good idea to have a vision of what success looks like. This vision must then be translated into goals and objectives by which project success can be measured. Of course there is a huge amount of operational data that must be collected and analyzed. In addition, most companies try to forecast and plan for three to five years out. The project plan needs to take both current and future data into consideration.

Brazilian supermarket operator improves logistics, inventory accuracy
    RFID Journal
Grupo Pão-de-Açúcar has found an RFID solution to a problem that previously affected both logistics and accounting for its Pão-de-Açúcar and Extra supermarket chains. The distribution of fish, as well as other products in its cold chain, presents significant challenges for the retailer. After all, fish do not have identical weights, and businesses work with average values per unit, resulting in differences between what theoretically was delivered to a store, what was really sold and the expected revenue generated by marketing.

Pouring it on: Horizon Beverage's new distribution center is designed to assure the smooth flow of beer, wine, and spirits
    DC Velocity
Handling cases of beverages is never easy. That's because liquid-filled cases are heavy to lug around and if dropped, can quickly create a sticky mess. In addition to being hard on the back, manual processing and sorting often result in less-than-stellar order accuracy rates, especially for operations that ship multiple cases to a variety of customers. That's why Horizon Beverage of Norton, Mass., was determined to make some operational changes when it recently moved to a new distribution center.
