WQA
Construction is well under way on the WQA Pavilion (right), where WQA members will exhibit together at the Aquatech China trade show in Shanghai this week.
Putting WQA members in one area gives us a prime space, extra visibility and the opportunity to work together on making the trade show a smoother experience for all. The show is billed as Asia’s largest event for water technology.
WQA will host pavilions at Aquatech Mexico, Sept. 4-6, 2018, in Mexico City and at Aquatech Amsterdam on November 5-8, 2019. If you're interested in exhibiting in the WQA Pavilion at either show, contact Kelley Thompson at 630-929-2525 or kthompson@wqa.org.
WQA
The WQA President's Club is a longstanding tradition of recognizing members who are committed to promoting the association and encouraging other water treatment professionals to join. Recruit three new WQA members by Feb. 1 and you will become a member of this prestigious group.
As you know, WQA now offers benefits tailored to meet individual company's needs. This is great time to be a member of WQA!
Recruitment is easy — only two steps:
1. Send the potential member a link to the membership application page
2. Be sure the applicant lists you as sponsor
Once three applicants have submitted applications listing you as a sponsor, WQA will let you know you are a member of the President's Club! You will receive an invitation to be recognized by your peers at the President’s Club reception during the WQA Convention & Expo April 23-26, 2019, in Las Vegas.
For questions related to the recruitment process or the President's Club, contact the membership department at 630-505-0160 or membership@wqa.org.

WQA is inviting potential speakers to submit proposals for presentations for the 2019 WQA Convention & Exposition.
The conference is April 23-26, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nev. The theme is "Solutions."
WQA provides a list of suggested technical topics (emerging contaminants and treatment, treatment innovations, water-related legislative issues) or business topics (consumer trends, selling in the water industry, conflict resolution), but potential presenters are welcome to suggest their own topics as well.
Preference is given to WQA members; manufacturers with products on the market must be registered exhibitors to participate in presentations. Presenters must adhere to the WQA Code of Ethics.
Proposals are due by June 29 and must be submitted online using the form and guidelines at wqa.org/convention/presentations. Questions can be directed to education@wqa.org.
For more on the topic, you can view a WQA Live discussion by WQA Professional Certification and Education Director Tanya Lubner, PhD, and Marketing and Communications Director Wes Bleed here.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt is starting to grapple with a class of chemicals used in manufacturing that has been found in drinking water in recent years.
Pruitt convened a summit this week with state officials, industry representatives, environmental advocates and others to discuss the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the water supply. He labeled the issue a "national priority" and promised certain steps toward potentially regulating the chemicals' presence in water.

Governing
Four years after the start of the Flint water crisis, Michigan state regulators are on the verge of approving some of the strictest rules in the country to reduce the risk of water-based lead poisoning. But local governments warn that the rules are needlessly expensive, likely unconstitutional and won't necessarily improve public health.
Michigan's Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) drafted the rules, which could officially take effect in the next two weeks.

The lead levels in Newark, New Jersey's, drinking water are among the highest recorded by a large water system in the United States in recent years. In 2017, more than 26 parts per billion (ppb) of lead was found in 10 percent of the City's tap water samples, and 20 percent of samples exceeded the 15 ppb action level set by the federal Environmental Protection Agency. At certain Newark homes, lead was found at much higher concentrations.
