ACFAOM
In addition to 14 CECHs approved by CPME, ACFAOM 2016’s program has been reviewed by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) and several of the sessions meet the Board's requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC). ACFAOM 2016 will be held June 24-26 at the luxurious Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, Georgia, and plenty of time has been scheduled for sightseeing in this charming and historic Southern city. A highlight of the program will be a 3-hour debate by proponents of the three theoretical approaches to custom foot orthoses: Root, Tissue Stress, and MASS. This 'hot button' issue will compare all three approaches using patient cases, and you will leave the session much better prepared to know which approach to use in your own practice. Registration is FREE for ACFAOM members and very reasonable for non-members, with special discounts for GPMA members and Federal DPMs . For more details about the program and the hotel, and to register, click here.

American football is an extremely physical game with a much higher risk of injury than other sports. While many studies have reported the rate of injury for particular body regions or for individual injuries, very little information exists that compares the incidence or severity of particular injuries within a body region. Such information is critical for prioritizing preventative interventions.

The FDA recently expanded the indication for the Integra Omnigraft Dermal Regeneration Matrix for the treatment of certain diabetic foot ulcers, according to a company press release.
The device is used by placing it over the ulcer to provide an environment for new skin and tissue to regenerate and help heal the wound.
"We are excited to see a new innovation in diabetes care with the potential to improve the number of foot ulcers that heal," William Maisel, M.D., MPH, acting director of the Office of Device Evaluation in the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, said in the release. "Healing these painful and debilitating ulcers is essential for patients to resume walking and other daily activities."

Runners with flat feet or whose feet roll inward may want to invest in running shoes with motion control to help prevent injuries, according to a study from Luxembourg.

not uncommon for the average athlete to self-treat a foot problem using these products prior to seeking professional advice.

The Obama administration is tearing down barriers that make it difficult for patients to get access to their own medical records, telling doctors and hospitals that in most cases they must provide copies of these records within 30 days of receiving a request.
In theory, patients have long had a right to obtain copies of their records, but federal officials say they receive large numbers of complaints from consumers frustrated in trying to exercise that right.

There's a big problem with duplicate patient records across the U.S., according to the American Health Information Management Association. The organization says the majority of health information management professionals routinely work to mitigate duplicate patient records with the patients they encounter. According to a recent survey, 72 percent face these troubles each week, while less than half said they have a quality assurance step in their registration process.

Journal of Foot & Ankle Research
The total contact cast is an effective intervention to reduce plantar pressure in patients with diabetes and a plantar forefoot ulcer. The walls of the TCC have been indirectly shown to bear approximately 30 percent of the plantar load. A new direct method to measure inside the TCC walls with capacitance sensors has shown that the anterodistal and posterolateral-distal regions of the lower leg bear the highest load. The objective of this study was to directly measure these two regions in patients with Diabetes and a plantar forefoot ulcer to further understand the mechanism of pressure reduction in the TCC.
