Inflammation associated with gout may change tissue elasticity. Ultrasound imaging using shear wave elastography offers a non-invasive method of quantifying changes in tendon stiffness. These authors sought to determine differences in Achilles tendon stiffness in people with gout compared to controls (non-gout) using SWE.

Barriers to and facilitators of endorsement for scheduled medicines in podiatry: A qualitative descriptive study

Australian podiatrists and podiatric surgeons who have successfully completed the requirements for endorsement for scheduled medicines, as directed by the Podiatry Board of Australia, are eligible to prescribe a limited amount of schedule 2, 3, 4 or 8 medications. Registration to become endorsed for scheduled medicines has been available to podiatrists for over 10 years, yet the uptake of training has remained low (approximately 2% of registered podiatrists/podiatry surgeons).

Opioid prescribing habits of podiatric surgeons following elective foot and ankle surgery
The Foot
Prescription of opioids following surgery is commonplace in the U.S., but with that has come increases in misuse, overdose and death. Evaluating prescribing habits in efforts to reduce the opioid epidemic is becoming more frequent. The purpose of the present study was to examine the self-reported practices of podiatric surgeons regarding their methods of post-operative pain management in adult, sensate patients, as well as assessing the frequency of use of adjunctive pain control modalities.
