ACFAOM 2012 will feature Lasers in Podiatric Practice: Pros and Cons. This educational track includes a plenary session on Saturday, Oct. 13 where you will learn from a panel of experts and moderator Dr. Bryan Markinson about the real and practical issues you will need to consider on how to use lasers to treat onychomycosis and other conditions AND for pain management. Sunday's workshop on Oct. 14 will be hands-on and will give you an exciting opportunity to handle and test lasers in action. This track will be a great opportunity to hear and see, and ask questions about, everything you need to know if you are considering adding lasers to your practice technology. The conference will be held Oct. 11-14, at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista located directly across from Downtown Disney. The focus of the ACFAOM conference will be Wound Management, Medicine, and Dermatology/Pathology. Also, a new feature this year will be a special surgery track presented by ASPS. Medial navicular subluxation is a radiographic indicator of Charcot neuroarthropathy, according to a researcher at the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Annual Meeting, recently. "This finding on radiograph has been noted anecdotally by our senior author on multiple occasions, especially early in the constructive process," Allyson Estess, M.D., said. "We believe that the midfoot undergoes a destructive process in the construction of the ligament."

Some say states and the federal government are facing such complex technical and political realities that some deadlines need to be relaxed, including the Jan. 1, 2014, opening of online marketplaces where individuals and small businesses will be able to shop for coverage. The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act has refocused stakeholder attention on the implementation of the law's provisions but also re-energizes efforts by opponents to repeal parts or all of the statute.
"One of the most frustrating things has been having so much uncertainty about how we move forward," said Glen Stream, M.D., president of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Now "we can focus on the best possible implementation of the Affordable Care Act and its key provisions and work to fix the parts that need improvement."
