Diabetic foot ulcers are associated with an increased risk of secondary infection and amputation. Platelet-rich fibrin, a platelet and leukocyte concentrate containing several cytokines and growth factors, is known to promote wound healing. However, the effect of PRF on diabetic wound healing has not been adequately investigated. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of PRF on skin wound healing in a diabetic mouse model.

Diabetes affects nearly 1 of every 10 Californians. A serious side effect of the disease is foot ulcers, which significantly increase a patient's risk of amputation and death. They can be difficult and expensive to treat, and a majority of people with diabetes in the U.S. do not receive clinically recommended foot health screenings or access podiatric care. In California, Medi-Cal designates podiatric services as optional, limiting access to the complete care spectrum for diabetic beneficiaries. This policy brief uses Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development discharge data to project total California expenditures related to lower extremity complications.

Appropriate footwear for individuals with diabetes but no ulceration history could reduce the risk of first ulceration. However, individuals who deem themselves at low risk are unlikely to seek out bespoke footwear which is personalized. Therefore, our primary aim was to investigate whether group-optimized footwear designs, which could be prefabricated and delivered in a retail setting, could achieve appropriate pressure reduction, or whether footwear selection must be on a patient-by-patient basis. A second aim was to compare responses to footwear design between healthy participants and people with diabetes in order to understand the transferability of previous footwear research, performed in healthy populations.

Lateral talar process fractures are often missed on conventional radiographs. A positive V sign is an interruption of the contour of the LTP. It has been suggested, but not proven to be pathognomonic for LTPF. The objective was to study whether the V sign is pathognomonic for LTPF and if it can be properly assessed in different ankle positions and varying fracture types.
An experimental study was conducted. Two investigators assessed lateral radiographs of a foot and ankle model.

Researchers at New York University College of Dentistry have described a new target that may open the door to developing therapies for preventing bone fractures in people with type 2 diabetes.
In a study published in Nature Communications, the investigators report that hyperglycemic mice (or mice with type 2 diabetes) have a 24-fold higher accumulation of succinate, an intermediate metabolite, in the metabolic pathways of their bone marrow stromal cells.
