Glomus tumors are painful, benign neoplasms arising from hyperplasia of one or more constituents of the glomus body. The glomus body is a contractile neuromyoarterial receptor located on the dermis layer of the skin. These receptors are responsible for regulating temperatures through changes in blood flow. Glomus tumors may appear on any part of the body but most frequently arise in the hands and fingers. Subungual glomus tumors of the hands occur most often in middle-aged women. Approximately 75 percent of all glomus tumors occur in the subungual tissues of the fingers. The exact incidence in the foot is not known although it is significantly less.

While electronic health records have potential to facilitate reliable communication and followup of test results, limitations with functionality remain. EHR workarounds lead to inefficiencies and default the actual benefits of the systems.
