Minimally invasive percutaneous bunionectomy without fixation produces reliable and durable correction, functional improvement and decreased pain, according to a recent study in Foot and Ankle International. Following 195 patients for nearly three years after they had the procedure, the study authors showed significant improvement in radiographic angles, pain scores, patient satisfaction and functional assessments.

Patients are not accessing their medical records online, according to recent research published in Health Affairs. Hospitals that are part of a more extensive system saw their patients engage more with online records. That was also the case for teaching and public hospitals, the research says. Nerve repair and nerve transfer are the optimal approaches to restore function to denervated muscle. When the distal-most portion of the nerve entering the muscle is compromised, these are not possible and direct muscle neurotization is considered. Researchers describe the first reported case of DMN with acellular nerve allograft. The patient is a 25 year old male who sustained a blast injury to the patient's proximal leg with segmental injury to the deep peroneal nerve resulting in complete foot drop with 0/5 dorsiflexion and toe extension.
