The Foot
The fifth metatarsal Jones fracture is a unique injury. Previous studies have identified possible biomechanical risk factors related to this fracture, as well as potential subsequent effects on bone healing complications. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the effect of metatarsus adductus on bone healing in patients following intramedullary screw fixation of the Jones fracture.

An MRI study of long-distance runners presented recently at the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting suggests that the runners were able to regenerate the cartilage in their ankles and feet.
The runners participated in the Trans Europe Foot Race from April 19 to June 21, 2009. During the 4,487 km race that started in southern Italy and ending in the North Cape in Norway, the runners ran every day for 64 days without any day of rest.

Diabetic Charcot foot deformity is a progressive, disfiguring and debilitating condition characterized by joint subluxation and dislocation, fracture, and extensive osseous destruction. The goal of surgical intervention is to achieve a stable, plantigrade foot that will allow the use of proper footwear, reducing the risk of re-ulceration.
Surgeons have used intramedullary fixation/arthrodesis in the treatment of rearfoot/ankle deformity of the neuropathic Charcot patient.

An executive summary published by the National Academy of Sciences defines a disaster as "an event that creates a significant, short-term spike in the demand for emergency care services requiring extraordinary measures."
Disasters can be large or small, national or confined to just your practice. Weather-related disasters such as hurricanes along the coasts, blizzards in New England, tornadoes in the Midwest, or mudslides in California
can affect your practice if you are in an area inclined to experience such weather patterns. A plane crash, major
traffic disaster, or terrorist action can affect the entire healthcare community and emergency response departments.

Medical providers often view a patient's resistance to diabetes self-management as a deliberate refusal to follow the provider's prescribed course of action. Whether the directive is to change one's diet or to take medication, the outcome of resistance is usually the same: The patient's diabetes worsens, and the provider becomes increasingly frustrated.
The inherent problem with this perspective is that the provider tends to blame the patient, and many patients blame themselves for not following the doctor's recommendations. Many times, this sets up the patient for failure. Resistance is a symptom of a larger problem and must be understood from the patient's point of view.

Identifying people at risk of developing diabetic foot complications is a vital step in prevention programs in primary healthcare settings. Diabetic foot risk stratification systems predict foot ulceration. The aim of this study was to explore the views and experiences of potential end users during development and formative evaluations of an electronic diabetic foot risk stratification tool based on evidence-based guidelines and determine the accuracy of the tool.

Unfortunately, foot pain is an all too common complaint among Lyme disease patients. Plantar fasciitis is often diagnosed because it's a frequent cause of heel and arch pain. The dense, fibrous tissues that run along the bottom of your foot, connecting the heel to the base of your toe, become uncomfortable and inflamed. If you suffer from this type of foot pain, you know how difficult – sometimes, downright excruciating – it is to be on your feet. The pain is often most noticeable in the mornings, but frequent periods of standing or sitting can also provoke a flare-up of your symptoms at any time of the day. While there are several reasons for the onset of plantar fasciitis, the following tips can help you manage, and hopefully reduce, the severity of your foot pain.
