Celebrated for the first time in 1992, World Mental Health Day was held on October 10 this year. The campaign focused on Move for Mental Health: Increased Investment in Mental Health. At ADAA, we emphasize the importance of #breakingthestigma of mental health, providing free resources and support to those who need it not just on this day – but every day. As we live through the COVID-19 pandemic where each day often feels like a test of our emotional strength, we must remember that it is okay to not be okay. It is important to schedule wellness breaks, to take the moments you need to reflect inward, to check in with friends and family, and to invest in your mental health. Anxiety, depression, and co-occurring disorders are real, serious medical conditions - just as real and serious as physical disorders such as heart disease or diabetes. And like those physical conditions - they can be treated. Seek help if you need it, explore ADAA’s Find-a-Therapist Directory or educate yourself by reading the facts. ADAA’s mental health professional members are dedicated – every day – to the prevention and treatment of anxiety disorders and depression through education, practice, and research.
