.ADAA NEWS

As the holiday season approaches ADAA would like to thank both our public and professional communities – who have allowed us to accomplish so much this year. As we have all relied upon one another during this year’s challenges, ADAA ensured that reaching out to and engaging with those who are struggling with mental health issues remains our top priority. To date we are proud to have offered 60 blog posts and more than 15 webinars authored/presented by our professional member experts to address your most frequently expressed concerns and questions.
With COVID-19, health and financial concerns, this year presents new challenges that many will struggle with this month and next. While for many the holiday season means spending time with family and loved ones – whether in-person or virtually this year - for others the season often brings increased stress, anxiety and depression. We know that anxiety and depression can’t be conquered overnight, but with your continued support we can continue to be your “go to” resource for mental health educational resources to help you and those you love thrive.
This December 1 is #GivingTuesday, a global movement of giving back to organizations whose missions you are passionate about. By donating to #ADAAGivingTuesday2021 and by helping us raise awareness and #breakthestigma we can change lives.

Personal Stories of Triumph
“Everybody Feels This Way Sometimes” - A Song and Story of Authenticity by Sheri Miller
“When I wrote this song, someone close to me was suffering with depression, and I deeply desired with all my heart and soul to soothe them, give them relief. This song was my gift, a message of love to them. I realized later, this was also a song to myself. To remind myself it's ok – and actually good - to feel every emotion- including negative emotions- as emotions are powerful guidance.” Read more of Sheri’s story.
Listen to “Everybody Feels This Way Sometimes.”
Your story is important and has the power to help others in their mental health journey. We would love for you to submit a poem, video, artwork, or a story to be featured on ADAA’s website, in future issues of Triumph, and through our social media platforms. Your story can offer hope and encouragement and let others know they are not alone. Learn more here.

From Our ADAA Community Allies
 The Custom Journal
created by Adam Graser
The Custom Journal offers a resource to help mitigate anxiety and depression, helps spread awareness about mental health, and aids in removing the stigma that is so often attached to these disorders. It is why I chose to partner with the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA). On the ADAA site you can find a therapist, access free resources and get support. As I shared with you above, I feel even more strongly about ADAA’s mission today, which is why a percentage of proceeds for every journal sold goes to this incredible agency/resource..." Click here to learn more.

In an effort to raise awareness for depression, anxiety, and suicide, Olympic Medalists Nastia Liukin and Alicia Sacramone Quinn are teaming up again for #thebigfightagainstsuicide - a fitness challenge livestream! Part of the proceeds will support ADAA and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Learn more and buy tickets here.

ADAA Featured Live Event
Health Anxiety Part 2: Learn How to Face Your Fear of Death and Overcome Health Anxiety
The illness you fear may not be the illness you have. Do you worry about cancer, heart attacks, or a brain aneurism? Do you regularly google your symptoms or reexam parts of your body that are concerning? If so, you might have Health Anxiety. ADAA board member, Ken Goodman, LCSW, presents the second of two webinars on this debilitating disorder.
This LIVE webinar will also include a former patient who suffered with fears of ALS and MS. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask Ken questions about your specific fears and query his former patient about her journey to freedom.
Register for the December 7th webinar here.
It is recommended that you watch Health Anxiety Part One (available at no cost on demand) before participating in the second webinar.
Please note that registration is required and that there is a $10.00 fee for this event to help ADAA continue to offer this type of educational content. This webinar is geared toward the public community and does not offer CE/CME credits.

Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
My name is Calvin Rosser, and I am the CEO of Life Reimagined Ventures, a company dedicated to empowering 10 million people to live a more fulfilling life.
Each year, we award $500 in scholarships to high-achieving students who have been affected in some way by the increasing prevalence of mental health challenges.
I created the Elevate Mental Health Awareness scholarship in honor of my mom, an inspiring and compassionate woman who struggled with mental health and took her own life in 2017. The scholarship is designed to inspire greater awareness about mental health and fuel innovative solutions that help the millions of people who are suffering.
The scholarship is open to students at any educational level and field of study. The only application requirement is that students have personally experienced challenges with mental health or have had people close to them who have experienced mental health challenges.
To apply, write a 500-1,000 word essay about the following:
How has your experience with mental health influenced your beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations?
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a current high school or college student.
- Must have personally experienced challenges with mental health or have had people close to them who have experienced mental health challenges.
