Kirkland Lake Gold announced it has poured one million ounces at its Macassa Mine Complex since operations began at the northeastern Ontario mine in 2003.
The company attributes the discovery of the South Mine Complex for boosting production levels significantly in the past five years, producing and selling over 570,000 ounces of gold in that span.

In its pre-budget submission to the government of Canada, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) outlines its priorities for the 2016 federal budget to support Canada's mineral exploration and development sector. The PDAC recommends the government take action to improve the flow of capital to the junior exploration sector, and address the infrastructure deficit in northern and remote Canada.

A sewer project in Chippawa, which has frustrated some residents who have dealt with a foul odour occasionally coming from the site, is nearing completion.
Niagara Region has now finished the deep well dewatering operations as part of a new combined sewer overflow tank being built at the pumping station on Chippawa Parkway.
Residents in the Chippawa area should be noticing a substantial decrease in the smell, according to regional officials.
The dewatering operations, which required deep excavations, were needed to allow for the installation of the tank.

Laurentian University has signed an agreement to help improve mining and French-language education in the west African country of Ivory Coast.
At the Mine and Agriculture Symposium organized jointly by the Canadian Embassy in Ivory Coast and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), Laurentian University's Goodman School of Mines signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with the Groupement des professionnels des mines de Côte d'Ivoire and Institute National Polytechnique Félix HOUPHOUÊT-BOIGNY.

The city will play a major role in helping finance the clean-up costs of toxic soil at LeBreton Flats, no matter which consortium wins the design competition.
Devcore Canderel DLS Group and RendezVous LeBreton Group both suggested the city's program to transform contaminated property would be a key funding source in their development schemes.
Both bid teams said they are considering only existing government programs to help fund the cleanup.

The De Beers diamond company has ceased exploration of the Tango extension near the Victor mine due to local pushback.
The Victor mine is located in the James Bay lowlands of northern Ontario, and is the province's only diamond mine.
DeBeers is hoping to extend mining operations into a nearby deposit called Tango, but first needs to determine it's feasibility. The company said the exploration is required as the Victor mine enters its final years.

The federal government recently announced its support for earthquake warning systems as part of its expanded commitment to increase the nation's resilience to the natural disaster.
On the same day, President Barack Obama also signed an executive order that mandates seismic safety codes for all federal buildings, as well as mobilizes federal assets to support disaster recovery efforts.
