This workshop, presented by Lynda Bloom, P.Geo., comprises of two sessions:
1) The morning session is primarily focused on introducing assay quality control concepts, compliance with NI 43-101 disclosure rules and definition of technical terms. It is intended for geologists with less than five years of experience working with assay data.
2) The afternoon session expands on the basics and is focused on resolving practical problems managing assay quality control programs. It is intended for geoscientists with an interest in data integrity, anyone with responsibility for signing off on Section 11 (sample preparation, analyses, and security) of a NI 43-101 report, database managers for mineral exploration companies, geologists responsible for assay quality control program design or implementation.

Next Gen Geo is a non-profit organization based in Toronto, that provides development and training for those just starting out in the field.
Due to the downturn in the industry, many professionals new to geology are having trouble finding jobs when they finish school, says geologist Jamal Amin, the managing director for the group.

Saskatchewan is the world's second most attractive jurisdiction for mining investment after Finland, according to the latest annual survey of mining companies released today by the Fraser Institute.
Ontario came in third, a marked improvement compared to the previous survey.
"Rich mineral reserves, competitive taxes, efficient permitting procedures and certainty around environmental regulations will still attract significant investment, even with slumping commodity prices," said Kenneth Green, senior director of the Fraser Institute's energy and natural resource studies.

A public meeting will be held at town hall on March 6, at 6:30 p.m., to provide updated information from the county planning department on the proposal to expand the Halton Crushed Stone gravel pit just south of Erin village.
Some residents of Aspen Court and the surrounding area have been urging town council to oppose the plan, or to obtain concessions from the company to reduce the impact of noise, water run-off, dust, traffic and visual appearance.

The iPhone maker is one of the world's largest end users of cobalt for the batteries in its gadgets, but until now it has left the business of buying the metal to the companies that make its batteries.
