A big THANK YOU to all of our members and guests who took the time out of their busy schedules to join us at our Annual General Meeting and Reception on June 9, 2016. It was a great time for connecting and celebrating the significant contributions of members to the Geoscience profession and to the Association. We recognized APGO volunteers, recipients of Fellow of Geoscientists of Canada designation (FGC), and recipients of APGO's inaugural Award of Merit at this packed event. It was also here that the APGO Education Foundation announced the recipients of its inaugural scholarship and bursary awards. Overall, the event was a big success.
APGO thanks TD Insurance Meloche Monnex for once again sponsoring this year's reception.
Highlights and photos from the 2016 AGM and Reception will be published in the subsequent issue of Field Notes and will be posted at www.apgo.net.

Information recently released by the B.C. Crown Contaminated Sites Program (CCSP) has Mining Watch Canada calling on the provincial government to "stop talking and start acting" to prevent future mine sites environmental disasters.
MiningWatch Canada supports both the Auditor General's and the Union of BC Indian Chief's, (UBCIC) recommendations for a stricter, independent environmental oversight of the mining sector in B.C., as well as a much stronger financial security regime that would ensure that the public is never left to foot the bill to clean up contaminated sites.
