A letter was recently sent to Minister Yakabuski, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), outlining PGO views on the regulations under development for the Ontario Aggregate Resources Act. The letter can be viewed here.
MEETING WITH MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, CONSERVATION AND PARKS (MECP)
On June 24, PGO conducted one of its periodic meetings with staff of MEPC to discuss various topics including Excess Soil Regulation, Conceptual Site Model, the Water bottling moratorium, professional practice guidance and complaints and discipline.

PGO’s Professional Practice Committee recently released online the guideline on Professional Geoscientists Reviewing the Work Prepared by Another Professional Geoscientist. This document sets out the expectations for geoscientists when conducting reviews and when having their work reviewed. Read the document here.

Ontario Securities Commission
In November, 2018 the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) created a burden reduction task force to refocus our efforts on reducing unnecessary regulatory burden. Consultations were launched on January 14, 2019 with the publication of OSC Staff Notice 11-784 Burden Reduction.
One of the issues that emerged from our consultations as a burden on reporting issuers in the mining sector is the uncertainty caused by the potential for technical disclosure issues to be identified during a short form prospectus offering. Given the typical timeline of a short form prospectus offering, any delay can be potentially disruptive and costly.

Ontario Mine Rescue is marking its 90th anniversary on June 20, 2019.
On that date in 1929, the provincial government of the day passed Workman’s Compensation Board Regulation 98, which outlined details to establish mine rescue stations and train mine rescue workers through the province. Ontario Mine Rescue was created following the recommendations of T.E. Godson, who was appointed by the Ontario government to investigate the Feb. 10, 1928 Hollinger Mine Fire which resulted in the deaths of 39 miners.

High water levels and flood-like conditions in some lake shore areas in the county has prompted the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and Norfolk County Building Department to offer advice to protect drinking water and keep residents safe.
Cottages and homes in Long Point that are running off of wells or personal septic systems need to be aware of the dangers of possible flooding conditions, said a media release.

Northern College plans to use $200,000 in federal funding to create a new technology development position at the school's Innovation Hub.
That person will then help co-ordinate and support new applied research projects in the mining industry.

The week-long course will cover everything from the geology of the peninsula to its various plants and animals. Participants from as far as Alberta and the United States have signed up to learn about local ecology on the Bruce Peninsula.

Global News
A gigantic, freshwater reservoir has been discovered beneath the Atlantic Ocean, stretching from Massachusetts to New Jersey, according to a new study.
Scientists at Columbia University made the discovery during a multi-year survey of the sub-seafloor off the U.S. Northeast coast. The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports says the aquifer stretches from the shore at least from Massachusetts to New Jersey and extends more-or-less continually out about 50 miles to the edge of the continental shelf.
