The APGO sent out a membership survey recently to all P.Geo.'s and Geoscientists-in-Training via the Survey Monkey. The APGO is seeking members' feedback to inform our work in strengthening our role as the regulator of professional geoscience practice in Ontario. We are also seeking your input in order to improve our overall service. If you have not received the link, please send an email to Marilen Miguel at mmiguel@apgo.net. Completion of the survey will take about 15 minutes and as an incentive, you will be eligible to enter into a draw to win a $250 gift card. Deadline to complete the survey is July 31, 2018.

Trade tensions between Canada and the United States are not stopping Canadian mining companies from looking south for business opportunities, but they are also looking at markets abroad.

Even though heavy tariffs are being imposed on Canada by the U.S., particularly on steel and aluminium imports, many delegates and speakers said they were concerned, but business is going ahead.

The company has proven nickel and chromite deposits in the Ring of Fire, but those base metals are too heavy to transport out of the area, given the current lack of road access. Gold, on the other hand, is so valuable that it is often flown out of remote areas.

Welland will spend nearly $50,000 to have an engineering firm look into what caused basement flooding in Dain City in April, and come up with a plan to prevent it from happening again.
A significant rainfall, combined with snow still on the ground, led to sewer systems backing up and floodwaters entering more than 20 homes in the community south of Forks Road and flood basements.
After the incident, the city said the issue revolved around a regional station in Dain City that pumps sewage for treatment to the plant in Welland's north end.
