This is a follow-up to the announcement that was made in June 2019 regarding the launch of APGO’s new “operating as” name, Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO).
While the business name is now PGO, our legal name remains to be the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario. There will be no changes to members’ professional seals and certificates and we will continue to issue these to new members under our legal name.

With the next federal election just 13 weeks away, the Liberal Government recently revealed it will invest $1.395 million to expand the NORCAT research facilities in Levack.
The money will be spent to create a new 12,000 square foot surface building located next to NORCAT’s underground centre.
An additional $100,000 is being invested in the Revolution Mining Software company of Sudbury as part of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Strategy.

Dr. Nairne Cameron, associate professor, Department of Geography and Geology at Algoma University will be leading the Algoma University hub of a newly funded Living Labs Lake Superior sustainability project in collaboration with partners at Lakehead University and the University of Minnesota at Duluth.

Glencore will advance a $5 million loan toward the restart of a cobalt refinery in northeastern Ontario.
The international base metal miner agreed to a term sheet with Toronto’s First Cobalt as part of a recommissioning plan of the mothballed former Yukon refinery that could potentially see it back operating in less than a year, according to a recent news release.

The Canadian Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has committed to a $20 million debt financing package to help pay for Mapleton Township’s water and wastewater infrastructure project.
Announced recently by the municipality, the loan would help companies currently bidding on the project, as the township will be extending the CIB financing option to all RFP applicants.
If the successful RFP applicant made use of the debt financing package, it would pay two per cent interest for the first five years and three per cent afterwards over a 20-year period, explained Mayor Gregg Davidson.

Gordon Osinski, a professor of planetary geology who analyzes slivers of moon minerals from the Apollo era at the University of Western Ontario, said studying the moon is a window into the earliest years of the Earth’s existence and the emergence of life on our planet.
