Career Path Mapping Survey by Laurentian University in Canada and James Cook University in Australia
The availability of professionals who are ready to fill pending retirement roles in geology, engineering and environmental sciences does not meet the demand. A concerning gap is being created. As a result, less experienced professionals will be promoted to fill higher level roles, in which they will not necessarily have had the experience, the learned-skills, and behaviours to perform well in these positions. To ensure the sustainability and quality of mining industry professionals, researchers from the Laurentian University in Canada and James Cook University in Australia are conducting a study to identify the skill, competency and behavioural gaps felt by mining professionals currently working in geology, engineering and environmental sciences. In order to complete our study we need professional geologists, engineers and environmental scientists in mining to fill out a 8-10 minute survey.

It's getting harder to get into the mining business in Canada. That's the conclusion of a new study released recently by the Fraser Institute, a conservative economic think thank based in Calgary.
The 42-page report was authored by resident scholar Kenneth Green and senior policy analyst Ashley Stedman, both of the Fraser Institute.
Their report said the issue of permitting times should become more competitive. The report said when jurisdictions are not competitive in the mining permit process there is the potential for reduced investment thus decreasing the chances that a viable ore deposit will be found and developed.

Toronto is finally getting a relief line, but it's not one that's going to move people.
Instead, a new $400 million overflow tunnel to be built along the Don River will stop combined sewage and stormwater from overflowing into the river and Lake Ontario during storms and serve as a back up for an existing 60-year old sanitary sewer.

Mark Hannington, Margaret Stewart and Justin Emberley from the University of Ottawa have partnered with Metal Earth to provide insights to ore deposits in the Superior Craton. The joint Modern-Ancient Ocean Crust project studies modern ocean environments to develop an understanding of the factors that localize deposits on the sea floor. Researchers will then be able to take this knowledge and apply them to the ancient deposits in the Abitibi in the Superior Craton.
