Northern Miner
Given that most of the highly economic diamond deposits in the world have already been put into production, diluted via expansion or depleted, going forward the economics of diamond mines will inevitably gravitate towards higher-cost, lower-value operations. Miners are left with a fairly limited decision to replenish their declining resource bases by either discovering or buying greenfield projects or expanding their existing legacy mines, thereby elongating the life of mine but typically at lower-quality economics.

After studying minute bits of mineral trapped within the glimmering prisms, scientists discovered blue diamonds form much deeper down than previously estimated. Most diamonds come from about 100 miles below the earth's surface and are thought to be funneled back up by volcanic eruptions. But these sea-colored stones are a different diamond altogether, forming more than four times deeper, according to findings from a recent study.

Rock Tech Lithium has completed a hydrogeological survey on its Georgia Lake property in northwestern Ontario. The investigations, which were part of its preliminary economic assessment, help estimate the recharge of groundwater and the catchment areas, information important to define mining costs at the property. The company said the data collected indicate that the drainage concept to be developed during mine planning should not pose special challenges.

The Oshawa Express
Blue-green algae have arrived in Lake Ontario, but so far the waters surrounding Oshawa are clear. Blooms typically occur around this time of year and thrive in areas where the water is shallow, slow-moving and warm, but may be present in deeper, cooler water. So far, the amount detected does not indicate a bloom in the water, however.
