Ontario Water Works Association
The Ontario Water Works Association has two workshops of interest to hydrogeologists planned for this fall. The first, on Sept. 29th, is titled "Make Smarter Choices with your Groundwater System," and will examine ways of getting more from municipal wells, whether through energy efficiency, pump selection or sustainable infrastructure planning. The second, on Oct. 8th, is titled "Challenges, Wins and Early Insights from Implementing Source Water Protection," and will relay lessons learned from the early stages of Source Water Protection implementation in Ontario. Canadian Occupational Safety
Ontario will focus on motor vehicles and mobile equipment during an enforcement blitz at underground and surface mines across Ontario this summer. Mining inspectors and engineers will target traffic control hazards that could result in workers being injured or killed. Inspectors will check that employers are complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.

After a successful inaugural year in 2014, the North America Mining Expo in Sudbury expands to larger digs for this year's show.
"We basically outgrew the Hanmer facility," said organizer Glenn Dredhart, president of Canadian Tradex, which organizes the conference. The expo will feature more than 300 exhibits at the McLelland Arena in Copper Cliff.

Toronto's Wesdome Gold Mines has published its second quarter results along with the news that mill throughput is up and production costs are down.
During Q2 2015, Wesdome's two gold mines — Eagle River 50 kilometres west of Wawa and Mishi two kilometres away — had combined production of 12,476 ounces of gold, a 23 per cent increase over the previous quarter.

Or for snow. McKay Pond usually benefits from melting snow, but this year the spring run-off was a trickle and the pond has been low ever since. Across Eastern Ontario, a cool spring changed much of the snow into water vapour, not meltwater.

North Bay residents are set to experience the first wave of water meter billing in the coming weeks and local politicians are learning what kind of impact that transition will have. Despite the efforts of the Water and Sanitary Sewer Review Committee to establish a more fair and equitable billing system come 2016, city politicians said they first need to know how the changes for 2015 will impact customers and help them "get over the (fall) hurdle."

Heavy equipment students at Northern College Timmins Campus now have hands-on experience in working with specialized mining equipment after a donation from Dumas Mining Contractors.
Dumas donated six pieces of equipment to the college valued at $65,000, including three mine tractors and two scissor lifts. The equipment will be used by the college's heavy equipment apprenticeship students and those enrolled in the heavy equipment techniques and motive power technician/heavy equipment programs.

Water main flushing and cleaning has begun on Notre Dame Avenue to Arthur Street and along Lasalle Boulevard. All work will take place from 12:00 am to 6:00 am.
The City of Greater Sudbury is responsible for a municipal water main network of approximately 950 kilometres. A portion of this total water main network is scheduled for cleaning to maintain the quality of municipal drinking water.
