The Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade has released a Call for Proposals (CFP) inviting Applicants to submit proposals to continue the Emplois Spécialisés en Soutien à l'Ontario Rural (ESSOR) Ontario Bridge Training Program (OBTP) OR for a project to establish a new bridge training program for internationally trained Francophone immigrants in agrology, and related agri-food and water management professions.

Ontario Securities Commission
The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) recently announced that it will hold a roundtable to discuss issues identified in a review of the disclosure of over 700 TSX-listed issuers with year-ends between Dec. 31, 2014 and March 31, 2015, following the implementation of amendments to National Instrument 58-101 Disclosure of Corporate Governance Practices (the Rule Amendments). The Rule Amendments follow a "comply or explain" model and require all non-venture issuers to make certain disclosures with respect to women on boards and in executive officer positions on an annual basis.

Toronto's Treasury Metal has released new resource estimates that total more than 1.1 million ounces of gold equivalent at its Goliath gold project 20 kilometres east of Dryden. The estimate was completed by P&E Mining Consultants to update the numbers from the 2011 study.

The gold mining industry in Northeastern Ontario took another hit recently.
Primero Mining Corporation announced that 56 workers have been laid off as a result of the closure of the open pit operation at the Black Fox mine, located about 10 kilometres east of Matheson. It was formerly the Brigus Gold property. Primero's Black Fox underground mine continues to operate, despite the layoffs in the pit, said mine general manager Dan Gagnon at a news conference in Timmins.

University of Windsor researcher Bulent Mutus has designed and built a filter that can remove potentially harmful phosphates from contaminated water.
Phosphates are a naturally occurring mineral found in sewage and used in detergents and commercial fertilizers, but increased levels in waterways substantially reduces water quality. Runoff from water containing an abundance of phosphates causes a chemical imbalance in streams, rivers, and lakes and can encourage massive growth of some plants and algae.

Dr. Gordon Osinski could possibly be London's biggest rock star. But before you go looking him up on iTunes, it might be helpful to know his latest hit goes back at least a few million years.
Osinski is an associate professor in Earth Sciences at Western University. His primary area of study is the Earth, Moon and Mars, and how geological processes have shaped those three planetary objects. His specialty, however, is asteroid impacts or as Osinski described it, "what happens when big chunks of rocks hit the earth and other planetary objects."

If you thought your rock and mineral collection was reasonably complete, guess again.
A team of researchers, led by the Carnegie Institute for Science's Robert M. Hazen, used a sophisticated statistical modeling system to calculate that the Earth has a lot of undiscovered minerals — 1,563, to be precise — to add to the nearly 5,000 that already are known. Moreover, the scientists predict that Earth's mineral diversity is unique, and is not duplicated anywhere else in the universe — even on Earth-like rocky exoplanets.
