Lawyer Tom Richardson was at the recent regional planning committee meeting to discuss a unique water and sewer system to allow the development by Lakewood Beach Properties Ltd. to proceed.
"This is now the 11th year," Richardson said.

Nadia Mykytczuk, Industrial Research Chair in biomining, bioremediation and science communication at Laurentian University, spends a lot of time studying how micro-organisms like bacteria can be used to extract minerals and re-process legacy mine waste, all of which can reduce the environmental liabilities of mining. As one of the few mining microbiologists focused on cold environments like Canada, she is working to create a Centre for Mine Waste Biotechnology that will nurture the next generation of scientists, companies and microbial mining tools.

Avalon Advanced Materials reports the discovery of more lithium pegmatite on its Separation Rapids property near Kenora.
The new discovery, dubbed Snowbank Pegmatite, was found on its Paterson Lake claims, acquired by Avalon last year. The claims are four kilometres northwest of the company's main Separation Rapids lithium deposit.

Researchers from UCLA and the University of Houston have been tracking changes in the groundwater table that runs below California's San Joaquin Central Valley. The study directed by UCLA's Department of Geography Dennis Lettenmaier shows how between 2002 and 2016 there was a significant loss of groundwater from what is considered one of the largest agricultural hubs in the United States, as it provides more than half of the country's fruit, vegetable and nut supply.
