The federal government has announced $7.2 million in funding to connect Wauzhushk Onigum to the City of Kenora's water system.
The announcement was long-awaited, with part of the community just south of Kenora, ON, on a boil-water advisory since 2012. Another portion of Wauzhushk Onigum had its water treatment facility rebuilt in 2017.
MP Bob Nault made the announcement on behalf of Jane Philpott, the Minister of Indigenous Services.
The announcement also includes funding to connect Wauzhushk Onigum to Kenora's wastewater system.

Northern College is pleased to announce the continued success of its Diamond Driller Assistant Common Core program with the latest induction of students.
Since its inception in 2007, the 10-week program has produced 250 certified diamond drill assistants, 85 per cent of whom have secured meaningful employment with 21 per cent achieving full driller status within a year of graduation.

The Craig Mine-Onaping Depth Project is not only becoming a reality, but it will also have the distinction of being the first mine to be completely battery-electric, even if it means building equipment that doesn't exist, yet.
It's also a melding of old and new, with the previous mine's infrastructure being used to transport equipment and personnel to the deposit.
Peter Xavier, vice-president of Glencore's Sudbury Operations, gave an overview of the company, with a focus on the company's mine project, at a recent Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

Toronto's sewage system may be over capacity even when skies are clear, a new report released recently suggests. The revelation comes amid a multi-billion dollar city project to fortify its aging sewage systems against heavy storms.
The Toronto Harbour Monitoring Report is the result of twice-weekly water tests along the harbour, conducted by Lake Ontario Waterkeeper from June to August this year.

Toronto-based First Cobalt Corp. has begun testing cobalt hydroxide material as feedstock for its refinery in Cobalt. SGS Canada has been retained to assess the suitability of different feed materials using the current refinery flowsheet.
Last month the company said that restarting the refinery at 24 t/d feed rate and using the current flowsheet has a capital requirement of $25.7 million (including a 30 per cent contingency). The refinery could be operational in as little as 18 months. A final decision to restart the refinery has not been made.
