PGO
PGO gratefully acknowledges OSC’s Craig Waldie and Jim Whyte for partnering with us to provide a series of webinars on mining disclosures, in particular, a high-level overview of NI 43-101 technical reports. Craig and Jim’s presentations on standards of mining disclosures were consistently well-received. Each year, PGO licensees and other industry professionals look forward to their webinars as an excellent refresher and a great resource from which they learn first-hand what OSC’s staff look for when they review technical reports. A participant’s feedback sums it up best, “I have listened to a significant number of Craig and Jim's presentations and each time I always come away with valuable updates and additional information.” To access Craig and Jim’s presentation slides, please click here.

PGO’s Environmental Geoscience Subcommittee submitted a response to MECP’s proposed amendments to Wells Regulation. The proposed amendments to O.Reg 903 is part of Ontario’s burden-reduction initiative that aims to make it easier for the well construction industry to operate in Ontario while maintaining protection of the environment and public safety. PGO is generally supportive of the proposed amendments outlined by MECP. However, PGO also sees an opportunity to make additional suggestions around the use of QP and the potential to harmonize the well construction requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Ontario Water Resources Act — specifically the guidance documents and regulations relating to well construction. Click here to see PGO’s submission.
Ontario’s consultation with the public regarding the proposed amendments is ongoing. PGO licensees who are interested in providing their comments are encouraged to make their submissions online. The deadline for commenting is Nov. 27, 2019.

Scientists have long puzzled over why areas such as South Africa’s Highveld region are so elevated and flat, with unexpectedly hot rocks below the surface.
Geologists have revealed that carbon dioxide-rich gases bubbling up through natural springs in South Africa originate from a column of hot, treacle-like material — called a hotspot — located deep inside the Earth.
