North Bay Nugget
A new mining working group to streamline the regulatory approvals process and attract new investment to Northern Ontario is one of the projects highlighted in the recent Fall Economic Statement to benefit Northern Ontario.
Finance Minister and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli notes the statement includes a few pages that address Northern issues directly. North Bay's successful partnership with the film industry is included on page 44.

The mining industry is slowly recovering from an extended downturn, but it will need between 97,000 and 135,000 workers over the next decade in order to meet demand, according to a new report.
The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) recently released the 2019 Canadian Mining Labour Market Outlook Report. "Mining is characteristically volatile and cyclical, further challenged by skills gaps and labour shortages that have the potential to derail operations," said MiHR's executive director, Ryan Montpellier, in a news release.

Puslinch councillors are more than willing to support the province's proposed one-year extension of the moratorium on new or expanded water bottling permits.
That said, councillors also wanted to see provincial decisions/policies based on science and applied to all commercial operations that draw water.
Throughout the current moratorium, councillors have expressed frustration with the way restrictions are imposed.

The flooded bottom of an abandoned silver mine is an unlikely source of hope. But down there in the flickering light, a once worthless metal known as cobalt has sat idle for decades. Now it's one of the most sought after metals in the world and that has many in this town in northern Ontario dreaming of boom times once again.
A century ago, prospectors came to Cobalt, ON, in search of silver. They found it, and the town boomed. Amid all the silver, miners also found cobalt. So much that they named the town after it. Back then though, it was a mere indicator, a sign that something of actual value was nearby.

Low water conditions throughout the Moira, Prince Edward, and lower portions of the Napanee and Salmon River Watersheds have returned to normal, as recent rain has helped to improve streamflow and groundwater levels.
"Fall rains and reduced evapotranspiration (the process where water is transported from plants and the ground to the air) has left more water available to seep into the ground and run off into water courses, resulting in increased and improved streamflows and groundwater levels," stated Quinte Conservation's watershed monitoring coordinator Lynette Lambert.

The Post Creek/Halcyon property in Sudbury is located adjacent to the past-producing Podolsky copper-nickel-platinum group metal deposit of KGHM International Ltd. The property lies along the extension of the Whistle Offset dyke structure.
