PGO would like to acknowledge the work of Regional Councillors for spearheading PGO’s outreach to universities across Ontario. We would like to thank Mark Goldie, P.Geo. (Central Councillor), David Leng, P.Geo. (South West Councillor), Paul Hubley, P.Geo. (South East Councillor) and John McBride, P.Geo. (Former North West Councillor) for conducting the PGO Registration Information Session at a number of universities across the province with support from the PGO staff. We thank our Assistant Registrar, Eilidh Lewis, P.Geo. for being the staff partner on the outreach at Central Region. We thank the universities’ faculty and staff and student societies for greatly helping us in organizing these information sessions. New evidence gleaned from Antarctic seashells confirms that Earth was already unstable before the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.
The study, led by researchers at Northwestern University, is the first to measure the calcium isotope composition of fossilized clam and snail shells, which date back to the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction event.

A University of California, Irvine-led team of glaciologists has unveiled the most accurate portrait yet of the contours of the land beneath Antarctica’s ice sheet — and, by doing so, has helped identify which regions of the continent are going to be more, or less, vulnerable to future climate warming.
Highly anticipated by the global cryosphere and environmental science communities, the newly released Antarctica topography map, BedMachine, and related findings were published recently in the journal Nature Geoscience.
