American Journal of Transplantation
Preliminary evidence suggests that postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is common after lung transplantation. The impact of POCD on clinical outcomes has yet to be studied. The association between POCD and longer‐term survival was therefore examined in a pilot study of posttransplantation survivors.

Clinical Transplantation
The effect of preformed donor‐specific antibodies (DSAs) on liver transplantation (LT) remains unclear, especially in the field of living donor LT (LDLT). Herein, we evaluated the prevalence of preformed DSAs and their effect on graft outcome in LDLT in the first year following surgery. Using the Luminex® Single Antigen assay, we analyzed the preoperative sera of 61 adult LDLT recipients between 2014 and 2015. Clinical outcomes and pathologic findings including complement component 4d (C4d) expression in the first year after LT were retrospectively reviewed.

Blood group B candidates, many of whom represent ethnic minorities, have historically had diminished access to deceased donor kidney transplantation (DDKT). The new national kidney allocation system (KAS) preferentially allocates blood group A2/A2B deceased donor kidneys to B recipients to address this ethnic and blood group disparity. No study has yet examined the impact of KAS on A2 incompatible (A2i) DDKT for blood group B recipients overall or among minorities.

Transplantat Infectious Disease
Vancomycin‐resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) infections are common in liver transplant recipients (LTRs). Daptomycin (DAP) is an important treatment for such infections; however, DAP‐nonsusceptible VRE (DNS‐VRE) are increasingly frequent. The purpose of this study was to compare clinical characteristics and outcomes of LTRs with infections due to DNS‐VRE and DAP‐susceptible VRE (DS‐VRE).

Liver Transplantation
Liver transplantation (LT) is a successful treatment for both acute liver failure and end‐stage liver disease. The number of women of reproductive age undergoing LT is increasing. Pregnancy outcomes are favourable but there is still a lack of prognostic markers. We aimed to identify factors predictive of adverse pregnancy outcomes in LT recipients.

Most living kidney donors are women and, according to a recent study, men are donating even fewer kidneys than ever before. As of today, there are more than 95,000 people on the kidney transplant waiting list. While living donor transplant is the preferred treatment for patients with kidney failure, the number of living donor transplantations has been dropping since 2005. A team of Canadian researchers sought to determine the factors causing this decline.

There is growing evidence linking nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with reduced Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). Living kidney donors do not have underlying kidney disease, but have reduced GFR as a result of nephrectomy. Whether kidney donation is associated with a higher risk for development or progression of NAFLD is currently unknown.

Although oral antiviral agents have improved liver function in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, the relationship between their use and outcomes for patients on liver transplant waiting lists or for those who underwent liver transplant has been unconfirmed.
In a recent study published in the Journal of Hepatology, researchers found that pre-liver transplant treatment with these drugs decreased the number of patients on liver transplant waiting lists and improved post-transplant outcomes.
