IWD BCEA Dress for Success
BCEA
The BCEA Women’s Network is creating a drive to support Dress for Success Vancouver. The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
How can you help us support this?
Option 1 — Due to limitations of COVID-19, we have scheduled an appointment to do one drop-off next month (April). So, for the month of March, we are asking that you email us at bcea@bcea.bc.ca to schedule a drop-off location of profession attire that we can donate as an association.
Option 2 — If you prefer to donate cash, we suggest you visit their donate page at https://www.helpingwomennow.ca/donate/ and simply send us an email that you participated so we make sure you or your organization is recognized at the end of the drive. This option also gives you an official donation receipt.
Option 3 — You can donate on our IWD Challenge payment page on our website and we will send in all the cash donated when we drop off the clothing to them next month!

April is Construction Month in B.C.
Vernon Morning Star
If you work in B.C.’s construction industry, we have one word for you: THANKS.
Amidst the challenges that we all faced as COVID-19 took hold and our lives changed, the construction industry was called on by the Province to step up as an essential service. From the first days of the pandemic, B.C.’s skilled tradespeople were called on to keep coming to work and to keep building.
And they did it.

Kwadacha community gets grant for solar power
Prince George Citizen
The province recently announced $486,000 in funding for a 100-kilowatt solar project in the Kwadacha First Nation community of Fort Ware.
The funding, provided under the Renewable Energy for Remote Communities, will see the installation of solar panels on the school in the remote community, located 570 kilometres north of Prince George. The solar panels will supplement the community's diesel power generator, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 87 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

SFU experts: B.C. should explore 'untapped potential' of geothermal power
Simon Fraser University
Simon Fraser University’s Clean Energy Research Group (CERG) says B.C. could do more to support the development geothermal resources as a source of renewable energy.
CERG researchers calculated the estimated future energy demand and determined that the Site C dam project would not be adequate. In a new working paper, the group notes that B.C. sits on the Pacific Rim Ring of Fire, which means that BC and Alberta have abundant geothermal resources that could fulfill future energy demand.

Rising cost of lumber impacting construction and renovations
Kamloops This Week
The rising cost of lumber during the COVID-19 pandemic is challenging builders and home renovators, leading to increased costs and construction delays.
Whether one works in the construction business or is a homeowner building a deck in time for summer, lumber prices are up and supply is limited. “The price of lumber — there’s no ceiling on this right now,” Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Central Interior president Jere Lorenz said.
