Cheer on BCEA team at the Charity Summer Games

The Women’s Network is participating in the 2nd Annual Charity Summer Games is around the corner and its taking place on August 9th at the Telosky Stadium. Join us and cheer on your team as we compete against other non-for-profits. The goal is to help raise money for each of our initiatives through a fun afternoon or games and comradery. All are welcome. Bring the kids as there will be activities for them to participate in.
Any individuals or companies that would like to donate are welcome to do so either by filling out this form or by donating online! Money raised will go toward the Annual Thrive Summit in September as well as other educational initiatives.

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting has been postponed to Thursday, August 18 at 11:30 a.m. by Zoom. As a not for profit, it is necessary to hold our member AGM. We must have a quorum to proceed with the meeting. The meeting will only be 30 minutes, being held virtually. We encourage you or someone from your company to attend. If you are unable to attend, please fill out the proxy form and assign someone to vote on your company's behalf.

We are very excited to announce the Betty Lou Education Relief Award. This award is to honour the memory of long-standing Board member, Betty Lou Pacey. She was an icon in the electrical industry and an integral part of the BC Electrical Association's growth and sustainability for decades. She was known as a businesswomen, advocate, philanthropist, champion and mentor to many.

Government of Canada invests to help Canadians enter skilled trades

Approximately 700,000 skilled trades workers are expected to retire in Canada by 2028, creating an ever-growing need to recruit and train thousands more. That is why the Government of Canada is making targeted investments to remove barriers and get more Canadians the apprenticeship training they need to build good, well-paying careers in the skilled trades.

'The Vancouver Plan' passes, prioritizes and makes history

On July 22, the City of Vancouver approved The Vancouver Plan, the first city-wide land-use strategy in its history.
“A lot of the planning work in terms of how the city would grow and change has traditionally been community by community, so we would have a Cambie plan and the West End plan and other neighbourhoods throughout the city,” explained Vancouver Plan engineering manager Donny Wong.

Feds contribute $7 million for $81 million 'passive house' tower in Coal Harbour

The federal government recently announced a $7 million contribution towards the construction of an $81 million project in Vancouver’s Coal Harbour neighbourhood that includes social housing, a school and childcare.
The money is to assist builders of the 11-storey tower to meet “net zero energy and passive house” standards, according to Vancouver-Granville MP Taleeb Noormohamed.

No construction noise exemptions yet granted in Langford

No exemptions to Langford’s construction noise bylaw have been approved since the bylaw was adopted on May 16.
The bylaw implemented restrictions on when construction could happen, to address residents’ concerns about related noise.
Builders may still apply to the city for an exemption to the bylaw. So far three requests have been submitted, but none have been granted as they did not meet the approval criteria, according to a City of Langford spokesperson.

It was announced on this year’s summer solstice that the Kenpésq?t (Shuswap Indian Band), Yaqan Nu?kiy (Lower Kootenay Band), and Yaq?it ?a·knuq?i’it (Tobacco Plains Indian Band) in the Columbia Basin are using solar-powered panels in their newly built affordable homes for their members.
