Call to Action: Time is of the essence to modify the Just Housing Ordinance, which takes effect December 31, 2019. Visit the CAA Action Center to send a letter to your Cook County Commissioner TODAY! Your submission is CRITICAL to our effort and should take less than 30 seconds.
The Chicago "Fair Workweek" Ordinance passed in City Council on July 24th with an effective date of July 1, 2020. Please review CAA's Fair Workweek Policy Brief for more information, or contact Tom Benedetto.

The SHAPE Illinois campaign continues: if you would like to get involved speaking with legislators about rent control, please contact Tom Benedetto.
CAA and the Illinois Realtors submitted a letter to the Cook County Board objecting to a provision in a proposed lead hazard ordinance that allows tenants to sue for damages equal to five times the monthly rent without first filing an administrative complaint. The right to bypass the administrative adjudication process is inconsistent with other state and local lead hazard ordinances, and it would be costly, time consuming and impractical. We believe strongly that the right to cure through administrative remedies should be allowed before a lawsuit is filed.

Some unit owners in the 70-story tower recently received a letter from Jack Michalkiewicz, a Coldwell Banker agent, saying he represents investors looking to convert Lake Point Tower back to multifamily apartments.

After topping-off in March to take the title of River West's tallest building, the 23-story apartment tower under construction at 730 W. Milwaukee Ave. has new interior renderings and a fresh name. Although earlier conceptual images showed placeholder signage with the name The Mill, the development will be officially called Avenir — the French word for "future."

Ten months after the Treasure Island grocery chain abruptly shut down, a battle is heating up over plans to replace the Lakeview store with a glassy, 246-unit apartment building.
Opponents of the Optima Lakeview proposal said they delivered a petition with more than 500 signatures to the office of 44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney recently. Their chief complaint: The eight-story project is too tall for the site at 3460 N. Broadway.
