Housing is an important issue for planning, and many firms are well positioned to understand factors that affect local multifamily housing production. Given your expertise in housing development and land-use issues, we invite you to participate in a Multifamily Land Survey being conducted by the National Apartment Association with assistance from the American Planning Association. Or please forward the survey to the most appropriate person at your company.
Results from the survey will be combined with geographic restrictions, environmental sensitivities, and other data to provide a detailed and objective understanding of how land availability and development differs across the country. These results will be used to identify best practices and prompt further research into how land use impacts critical housing issues such as affordability, cost and supply. For advocates on these critical issues, this becomes an important ally in developing fact-based policy and legislative conversations.
We need your expertise in order to be successful, as we are gathering industry input from both private and public sectors for a well-rounded and robust view of the Chicagoland market. Our survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. And as a respondent, you receive a full copy of the survey findings when available.
Please complete the survey by Dec. 14, 2018 with this link: NAA National Multi-Family Land and Development Survey Your knowledge of local market conditions and planning processes will be critical for the success of this project. Thank you for your assistance!

Rent growth is slowing down at suburban Chicago apartment buildings, but developers are speeding up. Developers are on track to complete more than 3,000 apartments in the suburbs this year, up from 1,843 in 2017, according to Integra Realty Resources, a Chicago-based consulting firm. It would also be the biggest total since at least 1996, when the firm began tracking suburban multifamily construction.

Housing markets in Chicago and other cities that didn't land Amazon's HQ2 may get a boost next year anyway, according to a Zillow forecast. Although the tens of thousands of Amazon jobs will go to Queens in New York and to northern Virginia, several of the contenders "nevertheless got in touch with their inner can-do — and that will pay off," Zillow economist Aaron Terrazas wrote in the forecast.

More buyers looked favorably on the housing market in October, encouraged by a greater number of homes for sale, continued slowing in home prices, and a temporary decline in mortgage rates. Existing home sales posted their first month-over-month positive growth in six months. New home sales, on the other hand, plummeted to their lowest point in over three-and-a-half years, even as inventories increased and prices dropped.
