CREC Discovery Academy
The building underwent extensive remediation and deconstruction to ready it for additions and renovations. The 1960's area brick facade was in good condition with minimal spalling and hair-line cracks however its appearance and yellow color did not fit the scheme of the modern building it would be.

Products to be used for the renovation were required to be long-lasting, durable and sustainable and offer long-term economy. Also the designers did not want the brick to look old or covered by a thick paint layer, but hoped for a more uniform appearance across multiple types of surfaces.

Royalan Extreme Weather Mineral Silicate Finish was chosen for its weather resistant durability and long-term and economic life cycle, the fact that it will never blister or peel from the surface and that the color will not fade, even on southern and western exposures.

Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, Savannah, GA
Originally a family townhouse belonging to the Telfair family, it became a free art museum in 1886, and thus one of the first 10 art museums in America, and the oldest public art museum in the South. Located in historic central Savannah, on the west side of Telfair Square, it occupies an entire block, bounded by Barnard, West President, North Jefferson, and West State Streets.

Sides and the rear of the building had been painted with a silicone acrylic finish in the 1990's and was badly chalking and providing the historic stucco very little protection against the coastal climate. The front had been more recently refreshed with a latex finish, which was peeling in areas because of moisture vapor that could not escape from behind the latex. The finish was also badly worn and chalking.

Other surfaces were pressure washed to remove chalking surface of aged silicone acrylic finish. Soldalit All-Surface Mineral Silicate Finish was chosen as a "bridge" coat between the pre-treated surface and finish coat. A final coat of Royalan Extreme Weather Mineral Silicate Finish was chosen because of the harsh coastal climate of Savannah.
