Up to 500 million names hacked at Starwood Hotels
It was reported in the news last week that personal information of up to 500 million names in the Starwood Hotel guest reservation system were hacked and stolen. While Starwood hotels is a subsidiary of Marriott Hotels, they run a different reservation system from Marriott, and the Marriott reservation system was not affected by this hack and remains secure. Thus, guests who stayed at the Newport Marriott last September for the Southern New England Energy Conference are not affected by this hack. Starwood brands include: W Hotels, St. Regis, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Element Hotels, Aloft Hotels, The Luxury Collection, Tribute Portfolio, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton and Design Hotels that participate in the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program. Starwood branded timeshare properties are also included. Information on this data breach, if indeed you have stayed at one of these Starwood properties, can be found here.
