European parliament targets eight million charging points by 2020

Eight million electric vehicle charging points and a region-wide hydrogen refuelling network could be installed across the European Union by 2020, following an informal agreement laid out in Parliament. In its Clean Power for Transport report, the European Parliament said the plans were aimed at reducing the region's dependence on imported oil.

Arrival of first hydrogen buses marks milestone in Aberdeen project

The Aberdeen Hydrogen Bus Project marked a major milestone with the unveiling of the first vehicles of Europe's largest hydrogen bus fleet. The city council has taken delivery of four of the 10 hydrogen vehicles ordered from Belgian firm Van Hool as part of the Aberdeen Hydrogen Bus Project. The others are due to be delivered soon.

Hydrogen Future Corporation achieved a milestone in early March in its on-going efforts to secure funding to begin production of advanced hydrogen fuel cells. HFCO concluded an agreement with a private investment group for a significant percentage of the funds required to start production. HFCO is in active discussions with several other private sources to secure the balance of the production start-up funds it requires and will be announcing the completion of those agreements soon.

Mantra launches project to develop fuel cell vehicle prototype

Mantra Energy Alternatives, a subsidiary of Mantra Venture Group, has begun development on a prototype fuel cell for transportation applications. A version of Mantra's "Mixed-Reactant Fuel Cell" will be designed specifically for integration into vehicles of various types, with the objective of demonstrating a working prototype later this year.

Fuel-cell producer ClearEdge raises $5 million in latest round

ClearEdge Power, a closely held maker of stationary fuel cells, raised $5 million, according to a U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission filing. The funding round included debt and equity. Jennifer Sager, a spokeswoman for the Hillsboro, Oregon-based company, didn't return phone calls seeking comment.

FuelCell system used at greenhouse where CO2 spurs plant growth

FuelCell Energy, the biggest publicly traded U.S. fuel-cell manufacturer, is providing a power plant for a $7.5 million project to convert landfill gas into electricity and carbon dioxide that nourishes plants at a greenhouse facility in British Columbia. Village Farms International combined the fuel cell with a system from Quadrogen Power Systems that collects and separates landfill gas, the Vancouver-based grower said today in a statement.
