Persistence Market Research has released a new report that predicts that the demand for clean transportation will grow significantly in the near future. Fuel cell vehicles and battery electrics are gaining more support from consumers and businesses alike, but these vehicles have yet to find mainstream success. For fuel cell vehicles, the lack of a comprehensive infrastructure, which would supply them with the hydrogen fuel they need to operate, is one factor slowing demand.

Hydrogenics awarded $4.4 million in projects from the California Energy Commission

Hydrogenics Corporation, a leading developer and manufacturer of hydrogen generation and hydrogen-based fuel cell power modules, announced that it has been awarded two projects valued, in aggregate, at USD$4.4 million by the California Energy Commission for its "Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Technology Demonstration" program.

Scotland issues funding to support hydrogen fuel

A new funding package is being launched by the Scottish government, which could help bolster the prosperity of communities in the future. The funding is meant to support various hydrogen fuel projects, such as the Hydrogen Office at the Fife Energy Park, which is operated by Bright Green Hydrogen. CSR unveils hydrogen fuel cell tram

A prototype tram powered by hydrogen fuel cells was unveiled at the CSR Sifang factory in Qingdao. According to CSR Qingdao Sifang Chief Engineer Liang Jianying, the tram is able to run for 100 km at speeds up to 70 km/h before the cells need to be refilled, which takes 3 min. Water is the only emission during operation.

Plug Power Inc shows off GenKey fuel cell system

Plug Power recently announced that it is attending a trade show in Chicago where it will show off its GenKey hydrogen fuel cell system. The company's stock has been very volatile lately, seeing big moves whenever management announces another order from a major customer. The most recent order Plug Power announced was from FreezPak, which the company manufactured and shipped recently, according to a press release.

China has created the world's first hydrogen fuel cell streetcar

Chinese cities have become increasingly known more for pollution than for the new skyscrapers that have transformed skylines over the past two decades of development. This month, Chinese mass transit took a step toward alleviate the pollution problem. The world's first hydrogen-powered streetcar rolled off a production line at Qingdao Sifang Co. The tram will be able to reach speeds as high as 43 mph. Range will be 62 miles, after which the tram will take 3 minutes to refuel.

Japanese automakers join together to build hydrogen fuel infrastructure

Japanese automakers Honda, Nissan, and Toyota have announced plans to work together to develop a hydrogen fuel infrastructure in Japan. The country is one of the world's leading clean transportation markets and automakers have plans to bring their fuel cell vehicles to Japan in the coming years. Toyota has been the first to do so, launching its fuel cell vehicle in Japan in December last year.

Air Liquide installs hydrogen station at logistics hub

Air Liquide has been chosen by FM Logistic, an international group whose expertise lies in logistics and supply chains, to provide support for its projected deployment of hydrogen-powered forklift trucks. At the Neuville-aux-Bois logistics platform, located near the city of Orléans (France), Air Liquide installed a hydrogen charging station that will initially service 10 forklifts equipped with hydrogen fuel cells.

Millbrook joins consortium to develop vehicle combining hydrogen fuel cell and electric power

Independent vehicle test and technology centre Millbrook will join a U.K. industry consortium to develop a new class of zero emission light commercial vehicle. By integrating hydrogen fuel cell technology into battery electric vehicles, the consortium will deliver the capability to provide LCVs with significantly improved range and rapid refuelling.
