We Can Waive Your 2015 Membership Dues — Enter to Win!

Membership renewals for our 2015 fiscal year were sent via email to all Active members last week. Did you receive your renewal notification and 2015 membership dues invoice? Two lucky Active members, who have paid their 2015 invoice by May 1, will be selected by random draw to receive a complimentary membership this year. Will you be one of the members whose 2015 dues payment gets reimbursed?

Settle any outstanding balances by logging in to the COA web site or by clicking on the direct link that was included in your renewal email notification. Active members, whose accounts are in good standing by 11:59pm Eastern on May 1, are eligible for the draw. Winners will be announced in the May 12 edition of the COA Dispatch. Courez la chance de gagner le remboursement de votre cotisation pour 2015!

La semaine dernière, on a envoyé les avis de renouvellement d'adhésion pour 2015 par courriel à tous les membres actifs. Avez-vous reçu votre avis ainsi que la facture de votre cotisation? Les membres actifs qui auront payé leur cotisation pour 2015 d'ici le 1er mai seront inscrits au tirage de deux cotisations gratuites. Figurerez-vous parmi les deux heureux membres actifs dont la cotisation pour 2015 sera remboursée?

Pour régler tout solde impayé, connectez-vous au site Web de l'ACO ou cliquez sur le lien direct fourni dans l'avis de renouvellement d'adhésion. Les membres actifs dont les comptes seront en règle à 23 h 59 (heure de l'Est) le 1er mai seront inscrits au tirage. Le nom des gagnants sera annoncé dans la Dépêche de l'ACO du 12 mai. New This Year — Bring your Tough Case and Let's Talk About It!

On the Friday afternoon during the upcoming COA Annual Meeting, we are introducing brand new "Fireside Chats" sessions. Bring in your tough cases during these casual subspecialty-specific discussion sessions to review with the moderators and participants. Space is very limited and preregistration is required. Sign up for your spot in either the Trauma, Arthroplasty, Foot and Ankle, Sports or Paediatric case session when you register online. The Fireside Chats sessions are being held on Friday, June 19 from 17:00-18:00.

Nouveauté cette année : Discutons ensemble de vos cas épineux!

Le vendredi après-midi, pendant la Réunion annuelle 2015 de l'ACO, nous lançons les toutes nouvelles « Discussions au coin du feu ». Chacune de ces séances de discussion informelles est axée sur une sous-spécialité. Profitez-en pour soulever vos cas épineux afin de les étudier avec les modérateurs et les autres participants. L'inscription préalable est obligatoire, puisque les places sont très limitées. Réservez votre place à la séance sur la traumatologie, l'arthroplastie, le pied et la cheville, la médecine sportive ou la pédiatrie en vous inscrivant en ligne. Les séances « Discussions au coin du feu » auront lieu le vendredi 19 juin, de 17 h à 18 h.

To keep working his job in the oil patch, he needed open back surgery, and he needed it soon. According to Alberta Health Services, 90 per cent of Albertans in need of spine surgery face wait times between 26 and 37.4 weeks.

Island Health asks private clinics to handle thousands of surgeries

Vancouver Island's health authority wants private clinics to take on up to 4,000 surgical procedures a year in an attempt to reduce wait times and free up hospital operating rooms for more complex procedures. Island Health currently has partnerships with three facilities on Vancouver Island, but the latest request for proposals from private clinics will be the largest contract.
