Attend the COA Business Meeting on June 21
All active members of the COA are asked to attend this year's Business Meeting on Friday, June 21 at 11:15 in Hall B, 3rd floor of the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

The COA Secretary, Dr. John Antoniou will be presenting to the membership the newly revised COA committee structure supporting the COA's strategic initiatives.

On demande à tous les membres actifs de l'ACO d'assister à la Séance de travail annuelle, qui aura lieu le vendredi 21 juin, à 11 h 15, dans le salon B, au 3e étage du Winnipeg Convention Centre. Le Dr John Antoniou, secrétaire de l'ACO, présentera aux membres la nouvelle structure des comités de l'ACO, qui a été établie en fonction de ses initiatives stratégiques.

Saskatchewan is the 2013 featured province
The COA is pleased to welcome Saskatchewan as the 2013 featured province at the upcoming Annual Meeting. The featured province initiative was launched last year in order to highlight a different Canadian province and their contributions to both Canadian and International orthopaedics at each year's Annual Meeting.

Dr. Cole Beavis, President of the Saskatchewan Orthopaedic Association, will present on behalf of the provincial society at the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, June 20. Please join us in welcoming the "land of the living skies" to our event.

La Saskatchewan est la province-vedette de la Réunion annuelle 2013
L'ACO est heureuse d'accueillir les représentants de la Saskatchewan, province-vedette de la Réunion annuelle de Winnipeg. Le cycle de mise en vedette des provinces aux réunions annuelles a été lancé l'an dernier afin de souligner la contribution de chacune au milieu de l'orthopédie à l'échelle canadienne et internationale.

Le Dr Cole Beavis, président de la Saskatchewan Orthopaedic Association (SOA), prononcera une allocution à titre de représentant de l'organisme provincial aux cérémonies d'ouverture, le jeudi 20 juin. Veuillez vous joindre à nous pour accueillir la « terre des cieux vivants » comme il se doit à notre manifestation.

Quebec stands by mammography machines that Ontario is replacing

Quebec plans to keep using mammography machines that are under scrutiny across the border in Ontario, despite questions about their effectiveness in detecting breast cancer. Hours after Ontario announced it would spend $25 million to replace the 76 machines across the province and encouraged women to get retested, Quebec Health Minister Réjean Hébert insisted such actions were unnecessary.

According to an RCMP press release, a 2009 study found that 20 per cent of Grade 7 through 12 students reported using at least one prescription drug without a doctor's prescription.

Palmarès des urgences: trois hôpitaux de Québec font bonne figure
Le palmarès des urgences publié pour la 8e année consécutive dans le journal La Presse ressemble, pour la région, à celui des années passées. Trois hôpitaux de la région de Québec obtiennent d'excellents résultats. L'Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, l'Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis, qui obtiennent la cote B, et le CHUL,qui reçoit un B -, figurent parmi les hôpitaux les plus méritants. Par contre, la note de D est attribuée aux urgences de Saint-François-d'Assise et l'Enfant -Jésus. Saint sacrement récolte un D-.

Head of Quebec order of nurses: Cutting nursing jobs is short-sighted

Slashing nursing jobs is nothing if not short-sighted, says the head of the Quebec order of nurses. Having fewer nurses on hand has a negative effect on patients, Lucie Tremblay said during a break at the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec's annual meeting, whose theme this year is improving care and patient safety. Tremblay's comments come in the wake of more cuts being announced at the McGill University Health Centre.

The new Ontario government is fulfilling its commitment to improve provincial oversight and safety with respect to the province's drug supply system by enacting regulations that will: Ensure hospitals purchase drugs only from accredited, licensed or otherwise approved suppliers.
