Wisconsin tennis courts to be transformed into futsal courts
Glendale Now
Where some people might see deteriorating tennis courts, Keith Tozer, a 21-year coach of the Milwaukee Wave, saw future futsal courts. He had created a daily log of the inactivity at Glendale, Wisconsin's Lincoln Park, which he presented to the Milwaukee County Parks Department along with his proposal to turn the four tennis courts into two, 70-by-85-foot futsal courts. Milwaukee County Parks had also noticed the vacancy on the tennis courts, and bought Tozer's vision for new futsal courts.

Technology, outdoor sports converge at drone conference
The Associated Press via U.S. News & World Report
Surfers catching waves and mountain bikers pedaling through forests are used to the occasional low flying pelican or diving hawk, but these days outdoor recreationalists can find what's up in the air isn't a bird at all, it's a drone. As prices go down and drone technology advances, park and wilderness visitors who want to use drones also need to make sure that everyone is having a safe and enjoyable experience, said Sergio Capozzi at the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals.

Proposed recreation land increase would make it safer for mountain lions
San Gabriel Valley Tribune
An area of the Santa Monica Mountains that sleek mountain lions, fierce bobcats and soaring raptors call home might soon double, thanks to a congressional proposal under consideration by the U.S. National Park Service. A portion of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area known as the Rim of the Valley, mainly a collection of parkland, open space and trails, is a key component of the proposal addressed in a study of the corridor.

North Jersey's real 'Parks and Recreation' staffs using creativity to make do on less
NorthJersey.com
"Happy and famous." That's what Passaic, New Jersey Recreation Superintendent Jessica Lezcano once wrote in an essay about what she wanted to be when she grew up. As senior residents played bingo outside her office on a Friday after she had spent the morning meeting with Girl Scouts, the American Cancer Society and staff members, Lezcano said she's made it — she's "famous in my community."

Supporters urge Florida council to leave Cambier Park alone
Naples Daily News
Softball and Little League teams recently urged the Naples (Florida) City Council not to dismantle Cambier Park's ball field, a plea triggered by concerns about the park. A "Save Historical Landmark Cambier Park" petition was created on gopetition.com after a consultant and the city parks director told a Community Services Advisory Board member it was underutilized and could be used for open space. The consultant is conducting a citywide parks survey to gauge needs, redundancies and areas that can be scrapped or improved.
