CPRS
We have a place for any year-end training monies you might have. Here is our list of Statewide CPRS Learning Events
CPRS Conference & Expo — the CPRS Conference & Expo is CPRS' premier education and community-building event. It is designed for CPRS members and industry supplies to interact and learn from each other both in facilitated education programs and in informal conversations happening outside of sessions. Educational programming is varied by topic and experience level and meant to serve a diverse audience in an intensive, yet fun and interactive atmosphere. Networking opportunities are plentiful and are designed to build community. Conference begins Feb. 28 in Sacramento.
Maintenance Management School — This annual Fall program is designed specifically for agency staff with maintenance and operations work. It teaches the development of a Maintenance Management System. It is a limited attendance, four and a half day program with the highest level of content prepared and delivered by peers, people working everyday in the park and recreation public agency environment. Starts the third week of November for 2016.
Playground Safety Certification — Curriculum is written by NRPA advisors/content experts. Individuals taking the CPSI two-day classroom course will gain practical, hands-on training on how to apply the ASTM standards and the CPSC guidelines to playground environments. These guidelines are mandated in the State of California. Upon completion of the CPSI course an individual should be capable of establishing a sound risk reduction program, establish a system of repair, retrofit and removal of hazardous equipment and establish a routine inspection system. A two-hour exam from NRPA provides the only national certification available in playground safety. Frequency of courses is 5–6 per year in different locations in California included the week of the annual Conference.

Industry suppliers please note, we would love to see your session proposal include a park and recreation panelist who can provide "lessons learned." Playground Professionals
The original concept for adventure playgrounds began in Europe in 1931. C. Th. Sorensen, a Danish landscape and playground designer, saw children playing everywhere except at the traditional cement and asphalt playgrounds. The idea that children would rather play with dirt, rocks, lumber, etc. started a revolution in the playground industry.

As most CPRS members are aware, another iteration of a park bond vehicle was introduced earlier in the year in the form of AB 2444 by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella). This was introduced to serve as an Assembly companion to SB 317 (de León). However, SB 317 has languished and AB 2444 appears to be the lone vehicle for now. CPRS's lobbyist, Doug Houston, was invited late last year to work with Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon's office to begin to craft language that could pass legislative muster. CPRS continued to work with leadership, the author and the Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee Chair and staff to refine the language.
