Transgender man denied use of men's locker room, files suit against NYC Department of Parks and Recreation
The Rainbow Times
The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, with pro bono co-counsel Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, recently announced that it has filed suit against the New York City Parks and Recreation Department on behalf of a 24-year-old transgender man who was targeted for discrimination last summer at a public pool in Staten Island, New York. Bryan Ellicott went to the Joseph H. Lyons Pool, and while in the men's locker room, he was confronted by a pool staff member and told he had to leave the men's locker room.

Man donates $50,000 to hire staff to keep 11 urban parks supervised
Daily Record
Eleven urban parks in Jacksonville, Florida, will have adult supervision this summer with the help of a $50,000 donation from attorney Steve Pajcic. Mayor Alvin Brown announced the donation and pilot program, called "Rec 'N Roll Jax," at Woodstock Park, one of the facilities that will benefit from the program.

Leashed dogs to get 1-year trial in 4 city parks in Florida
Palm Beach Post via Athletic Business
Man's best friend is now welcome — as long as the dog is on a leash — at four city parks in Palm Beach, Florida. The City Commission recently unanimously approved amending the ordinance that prohibited dogs from the parks, but not without some concern from both the commission and the public.

Improvements coming to beaches in Carlsbad
Seaside Courier
Carlsbad is teaming up with the state to improve the beachgoing experience along Carlsbad Boulevard and to restore and re-vegetate the eroded coastal bluff along the seawall in the same location. The area — which includes walkways, landscaping, benches, picnic tables and a restroom — has seen better days, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation does not have all the resources to take care of needed maintenance.

Temporary fencing installed along Isla Vista cliffs

Bright orange mesh fencing is cropping up along the bluffs of Isla Vista. The temporary fencing — which will be installed along the ocean side of five public parks — will fortify some existing low wooden railings and will also be installed where no barriers exists. The cliffs have long posed a threat to residents and party-goers in the seaside college town.
