Barry Edward Weiss dies
Barry Edward Weiss died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, July 2, 2016. A graduate of Cal State Hayward and Alameda High School, Barry worked as a high school history and government teacher for nine years before turning to parks and recreation, where he mentored countless professionals, served as President of the California Park & Recreation Society, and was selected as a member of the prestigious American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration.

Meet Lemoore's new community services director
Jason Glick joins the Lemoore Parks and Recreation Department as the new community services director. Glick, who has been on the job for less than a month, lives in Visalia with his wife, Kimber, and their 13-year-old son, Carter. Glick was a former recreation supervisor in Visalia and brings 17 years of experience in municipal parks and recreation.

Sailors from the USS Greeneville meeting in town for their 20-year commissioning reunion took time out recently to give back to their namesake Tennessee community by sprucing up Legion Field. The former crew members of the submarine, family members, friends and local residents put up tin siding, painted walls and handrails, and undertook other tasks to give a facelift to the baseball complex on West Summer Street.

Female-only hours will continue at two public swimming pools in Brooklyn, New York, the de Blasio administration said Wednesday, an exception to the city law ordinarily barring gender discrimination. The decision, by human rights chairwoman Carmelyn Malalis, is a reversal of a position the agency took earlier this year, when segregated swimming was ruled unlawful and the practice ended. It was soon reinstated after an outcry by local Orthodox Jews whose women and girls patronize the pools.
