Reader input: Why no public input before Bear River Park decision?
Gold Country Media
At the Weimar-Applegate-Colfax Municipal Advisory Council (WAC-MAC) meeting on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, it was announced that Placer County is abandoning Bear River Park and Campground.
Wait!! What about public input into decisions of serious consequence to the public? What happened to transparency in government? Did government transparency suddenly become obsolete? This decision didn’t even come before the Placer County Parks Commission, the most relevant County body where there can be public input on parks decisions.

The law can help us make parks more inclusive
The Good Men Project
Parks and public spaces don’t work for teenage girls, say campaigning charity Make Space for Girls. Up and down the country, outdoors facilities for teenagers are mostly used by boys, and girls end up with nowhere to go. This kind of structural inequality is what the Public Sector Equality Duty (part of the Equality Act 2010) is designed to address, by encouraging public bodies to consider potential discrimination in their decision making.

Enhancing the city's role as a carbon sink: the San Francisco experience
Canadian Architect
What is a “carbon sink,” and how can it help us fight climate change? Carbon sinks act like sponges that soak up more carbon from the atmosphere than they release. We define the process by which we remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as “carbon sequestration.” The most effective carbon sinks use our natural systems (i.e., forests, wetlands, agricultural lands and coastal ecosystems), but buildings also play an essential role.
