Reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)
Ensure that all Americans fully benefit by supporting local community parks and recreation
In just a few days, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is set to expire on Sept. 30, after 50 years of conserving our nation's lands and ensuring that new parks and open spaces are accessible to all Americans. The LWCF State Assistance Program, which grants matching funds to state and local communities' investments in acquiring and improving park land, has provided over $4 billion to states, territories, and local communities. Your help is needed.

Reclaimed dump site to become Pride Prep sports field
The Spokesman-Review
The site of an old, forgotten landfill will soon be a school's sports field, but only after the city of Spokane, Washington finishes burying and covering a 260,000-gallon stormwater tank. The grassy playground will sit across East Sprague Avenue from Pride Prep, one of Spokane's two new charter schools.

Georgia county considering millage rate for parks
Forsyth County News
The Forsyth County, Georgia's parks and recreation board recently received updates on a variety of projects, including the possibility of a dedicated millage rate to fund the department. Director Jim Pryor told the board during its recent meeting that the county commission is exploring the concept.

Adaptive-sports program set for debut in Iowa
Telegraph Herald
An adaptive-sports open gym will be piloted in Dubuque, Iowa this fall. The open gym is for people of all ages with physical disabilities who might not fit into Special Olympics and are unable to play regular organized sports.
