'Pyramid methodolgy' will help determine park service fees
The Coast News
Encinitas residents could see higher fees for certain parks and recreation services, but the city is asking residents to help them prioritize the programs as part of the fee-planning process. The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting five meetings in October in which they will unveil a new methodology for developing the fees, using a "pyramid methodology" developed by a Colorado-based recreation consultant firm and used in other jurisdictions, such as Carlsbad and the County of San Diego.

Ojai Skate Park, which opened more than 15 years after being proposed, is for skateboarders. No bicyclists are allowed. So a coalition of parents banded together to work on creating a similar facility for bicycle riders.

Minnesota council shares mixed opinions on changes

Consultant: Washington city should seek manager for recreation, put parks under public works

What Snoqualmie, Washington, really needs is a recreation manager — that's the recommendation of Ralph Dannenberg, the consultant the city hired to examine efficiencies and leadership of its parks and recreation arm. Snoqualmie has been without a standalone parks and recreation head since Gwen Voelpel resigned in 2011; Dan Marcinko's Public Works Director role expanded to become Interim Parks and Public Works Director.

Community program to commit $15,000 in grants to help beautify and maintain public green spaces across the US
Part of what makes a good community great are the green spaces for families, friends, neighbors and community members to enjoy. To help improve outdoor environments like neighborhood parks, playgrounds and other great spaces, Toro has launched "Green Spaces Makes Great Places". This second annual community grant program will award grants totaling $15,000 to communities and nonprofits to improve landscapes across America.
