The city of Pacifica is serious about your safety. The recent Napa earthquake was a stark reminder of the need for Pacificans to remain prepared at all times. Acting Police Chief Joe Spanheimer of the Pacifica Police Department engages the citizens of Pacifica on a regular basis, and signs have emerged that perhaps people in this community may not be as prepared as they need to be.

Illinois park district launches website for community engagement
Daily Herald
Illinois' Palatine Park District recently launched Forward Thinking, an online community engagement platform, to seek feedback from park district residents on current parks, programs, and facilities as well as how these features can be improved for the future. This feedback will be used to develop Palatine Park District's five-year comprehensive master plan.

The Afterschool Alliance recently released America After 3PM, a report that compiles a decade of data about how children spend the hours between 3 and 6 p.m. It uncovers the trends of after-school program participation, highlights the benefits and measures public support for after-school programs. Building Better Communities grants available through NRPA
NRPA is pleased to be partnering with the American Water Charitable Foundation to implement the Building Better Communities program. Building Better Communities is designed to create nature-based playgrounds and natural play areas for children, while also promoting water stewardship education. Building Better Communities projects are supported with funding from AWCF and implemented through annual grants administered by NRPA. 2015 grant applications are being accepted through Dec. 5, 2014.
