Continuing to connect
CPRS
(version française) If 2020 and COVID-19 have taught us anything, it is the value of our connections ... both in person and virtual.
As we head into 2021, I am sure there will be many more occasions for us to connect, not just locally, but at the national and global level, as well.
For my first message of the year, however, I’d like to discuss two opportunities this month to connect with CPRS and the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management. If you’d like to help make our profession better and improve your skills as a communications and public relations professional, take part in both our DEI Survey, and the new Global Capabilities Framework this year.

CPRS
If you haven’t done so, the CPRS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force, and its industry partners, the Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms, IABC, Breakfast Culture and Leger, ask that you respond to the DEI Survey before this Friday, January 15.
In doing so, you’ll help the Task Force gain a better understanding of the public relations / communications industry in Canada for it to plan its next move towards improving diversity and inclusion within the Society and the greater profession.

An exciting gift to start the New Year courtesy of the Global Alliance!
CPRS
CPRS has a special gift for its members to kick off 2021! This month, CPRS has made the Global Alliance’s Global Capabilities Framework and the supporting assessment tool available to all members!
As public relations practitioners we need to constantly hone our capabilities to stay on top of the changing communication landscape. The Global Capabilities Framework (GCF) offers a benchmark for measuring personal and team capability in professional communication and it is being used around the world as the ‘Gold Standard’.
Supported by CPRS, the Global Capabilities Framework is free for all members and is linked to a set of resources that will help you on your professional journey.
To access the Global Capability Framework today, log in to MYCPRS and click the link in the Member Dashboard!
If you'd like to learn more about the Framework, click the image below to watch as CPRS' Amy Thurlow, PhD, APR, FCPRS and the Global Alliance's Anne Gregory, PhD, director of the Global Capabilities Framework development team, discuss the many benefits of the new tool, and why you should incorporate it into your or your team's professional development plan this year:

5 approaches to measure the ROI of public relations
Forbes
It’s one of the most popular questions I hear from potential clients: how can we tell if this is an effective public relations campaign?
Measuring the effectiveness of a PR campaign isn’t always as straightforward as an advertising campaign, but contrary to what many entrepreneurs believe, it is possible to measure the return on investment of a PR campaign. PR might not be as straightforward or analytics-driven as a paid advertising campaign, but you can put a value on its success.

PR sector M&A activity declines, but independents stay busy
PRovoke
Mergers and acquisition activity in the public relations sector declined considerably in 2020, with the lack of visibility resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic putting plans on hold. While the volume of deals declined from 57 in our review of 2019 activity to just 39 transactions last year, the main impact was felt in the size of deals (much reduced) and the kind of activity we saw.
