(version française) As CPRS National President, I’ve had the honour of representing our association across Canada and internationally since last year’s annual general meeting adjourned. Without question, this year has been a remarkable one filled with a huge vista of possibilities, unforeseen challenges and opportunities and most importantly, literally hundreds of people across the country offering their support, time and talent to create a stronger CPRS for the future. The old adage “leave something better than when you found it” springs to mind and, as I had an extraordinary vantage point as President, I can say with confidence that we did just that resulting in tremendous accomplishments in 2018 - 2019.
After a year of planning and hard work by countless individuals across Canada, the 2019 CPRS National conference, Evolving Expectations, is now less than two weeks away.
This year’s stellar lineup features 30 speakers taking the stage over the course of the conference to discuss today’s most import issues in public relations and communications management, such as:
The Join/Renew and attend rate is still your best full conference offer; however, individual tickets and day passes are also a great option if you can’t attend the full event. Reduced rates for students, retired practitioners and educators are also available. Visit our registration page to find the rate that suits you best.

Companies in the midst of a crisis, as Blackridge Strategy appears to be, should get in front of the story and control the narrative before others do it for them, a strategist for a leading Canadian PR firm says.
But neither of the co-owners of Blackridge, Jake Skinner and Amir Farahi, have spoken publicly since court documents released last week linked Farahi with smear websites that went up during the fall municipal election campaign.
An astronaut, a little hop, and a witty quote: Neil Armstrong’s first lunar footsteps are ingrained in the minds of all humankind. But that first Moon landing might not have been such a historic cultural moment if it weren’t for NASA’s savvy public relations team.
Today’s digital marketers are facing unprecedented dilemmas when it comes to email marketing. Over the past 25 years, the adoption of email for personal and business use led to an increased volume of “batch-and-blast” emails. Illegal spam tactics targeting email users became more frequent and left users overwhelmed by managing their inboxes. In turn, email marketers noticed a change in how customer interact with their emails. By the late 2000s, email marketers began to doubt whether email would continue to be an effective marketing channel.
“The truth is that digital marketing is a content-hungry beast," according to Jake Sorofman in a 2015 Gartner blog post. Ask any marketer if they agree with that statement, and you’ll likely get a resounding yes. In fact, a recent study by my company found that over 60 per cent of marketers feel pressure to continually produce more content more often. And it’s easy to see why.
