Remembering former CPRS President Mel James
CPRS via The Globe and Mail
Melbourne “Mel” James APR, FCPRS(H) LM passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He served as President of CPRS Toronto and National President of CPRS in 1969-70 and 1974-75, respectively. In 1975, he was presented with the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) Award of Merit. And in 1977 the Canadian Public Relations Society awarded Mel the Society's Lamp of Service award. Mel also held the position of Chair for the Communications and Public Relations Foundation from 1988 to 1991. He worked professionally for Canadian National Railways and Bell Canada. As a volunteer, Mel was involved in organizations such as the United Way of Greater Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Toronto Board of Trade. He became an honorary member of the CPRS College of Fellows in 2001. Mel James is profiled in the Jack Yocom Public Relations Profile Collection. Hommage à l'ancien président de la SCRP Mel James
SCRP
Melbourne "Mel" James ARP, FSCRP(H) LM nous a quitté mercredi le 22 juillet 2015. Mel a été président de la SCRP Toronto et président national de la SCRP en 1969-1970 et 1974-1975 respectivement. En 1975, il a reçu de la part de la Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) le Prix au Mérite. En 1977, la Société canadienne des relations publiques lui décernait la Lampe emblématique de la Société. Mel a aussi présidé la Fondation des communications + relations publiques de 1988 à 1991. Il a passé sa carrière professionnelle au Chemin de fer du Canadien national et chez Bell Canada. À titre bénévole, Mel s'est impliqué auprès d'organisations comme la United Way of Greater Toronto, le Musée des beaux-arts de l'Ontario et la Chambre de commerce de Toronto. Il est devenu membre honoraire du Collège des Fellows de la SCRP en 2001. Mel James fait aussi l'objet d'un profil dans la Collection Jack Yocom de profils de relations publiques. On peut se renseigner sur ses contributions à la SCRP et à l'industrie canadienne des relations publiques en ligne.
