New Twitter content arrives on timelines, but not from your followers
The Content Standard
A recent change in the official parameters of the Twitter timeline has enabled a broader range of content to enter users’ feeds. According to its Help Center, the social network now may add content to a user’s timeline when it identifies popular or relevant tweets, accounts, or other Twitter content. As a result, Twitter users may have started to notice rogue tweets entering their timelines from accounts they don’t follow.

Why public relations and media relations don't mean the same thing anymore
FastCompany
Public relations is evolving faster than an out-of-control science fiction character. Yet many PR companies in my experience are stuck in the past. They still think of public relations as straight media relations with maybe a dollop of social media added, along with a sprinkling of branded content. Don’t get me wrong. Media relations remains a viable part of public relations. But it’s just part of what the profession can do.

Social media content marketing is only sustainable with original content
The Content Standard and The Skyword Blog
If you could say one thing about social media content, would it be that yours is improving? Research shows that top global brands are posting at least 30 times per week to Twitter alone. If those brands were equally active on just two more platforms — like Facebook and Instagram — they would be producing around 5,000 distinct pieces of social content per year. The scale can be daunting, and many technology companies have developed software that helps brands license and curate social content.

What Facebook's evolving social graph means for content marketers
MarketingProfs
As Facebook's concept of the "social graph" continues to evolve, it presents new opportunities for content marketing on Facebook. For example, content marketers may now use the website link campaigns to link the power of the social graph with driving engagement to branded content. Moreover, instead of running display ads on Facebook, you can now develop an engaging article on a responsive design website and drive relevant audience traffic to your branded content. In using this approach, you'll see extremely high levels of content engagement, with users spending an average of over four minutes on each article.

Carlsberg to consolidate social media around branded sites
Marketing Week
Carlsberg is to centralize social media content for its brands around what it claims are “state-of-the-art responsive websites” in an attempt to make the fan journey from social to web seamless. The project, dubbed Pegasus, sees the business introduce the online template to support its 500 plus brands in more than 150 markets. It allows marketers to build and manage social and web activity from a single content management system, which the brewer claims empowers those teams to “think customers and content first”.

The battle to own branded content
AdWeek
Doug Scott’s recent departure from OgilvyEntertainment, the successful unit he founded eight years ago, has raised questions about whether its WPP parent might fold it into another corporate entertainment sibling like media agency Mindshare Entertainment or GroupM Entertainment at the operating level. While Ogilvy execs say that isn’t in the works, such speculation still begs the larger industry question: As media, creative and PR agencies—along with production companies—vie to lead the growing number of marketer content initiatives, where should responsibility for branded storytelling reside?

We're drowning in branded and social content — can we have curators back, please?
The Huffington Post
It's become a relentless bombardment of the banal, the trite and the trivial. While there's nothing wrong, per se, with the likes of Buzzfeed, Upworthy and all their competitors and imitators, the growth of social and data-led content sites and their link-bait headlines ('you'll never guess what happened next') means that we're swamped in content designed to manipulate emotions while driving us to the last picture in the gallery ('the last picture will amaze you') or to the end of the video ('watch to the end for an incredible twist').
